He is currently Secretary of Working Group IV (Electronic Commerce) of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law. He is also in charge of the promotion and adoption of uniform interpretation of UNCITRAL texts on international sales law and electronic commerce. His extensive experience as a legal officer in the UNCITRAL Secretariat includes serving as first Head of the UNCITRAL Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific. He also worked with the Secretariat of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC), where he dealt with the use of electronic tools in preventing corruption.

A former lawyer at the Torino bar, he received a doctoral degree in comparative law from the University of Trieste and a Master in international law of New York University. He has published articles in the areas of international trade law and comparative law; particularly in on international sales, e-commerce and commercial law reform in developing countries.
